Description

(Solved): Annotated Bibliography

YOUR ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY WILL CONTAIN—IN THIS ORDER—THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS: • The Heading: Annotated Bibliography • The Claim you are arguing for the Toulmin and Rogerian essays. • CITATION #1 (in Alphabetical Order: a complete citation for each work included. (You can cut and paste these to your Toulmin essay later.) • SUMMARY: Two or three sentences summarizing the author’s main point / argument with supporting details. • EVALUATION: A. a short evaluation of the author, who is he / she and what authority does he / she have to write on the topic?; B. explanation of the author’s intended audience and purpose; C. an examination on extent of the author’s research; D. an examination of any biases the author might have; E. Currency—the date of the original publication of the article / book; F. overall quality—would this article “pass inspection,” and why? (The answer better be yes!) • EXPLANATION: Your own thoughts on why this is relevant for you in the context of your research paper, and exactly where and how you will use this source in your paper. • CITATION #2—in Alphabetical Order . . . and so on until you have all 8 sources listed and evaluated. IMPORTANT TIPS: • Don’t confuse abstracts or summaries with annotations. Abstracts are the purely descriptive summaries often found at the beginning of scholarly journal articles or in periodical indexes. Annotations are descriptive and critical; they expose the author’s point of view, clarity and appropriateness of expression, and authority. • If there is no author to evaluate, evaluate the web site. • If there is no date of publication, check to see when the page was last updated. Any science or technological sources should be no more than 10 years old. • When evaluating an author’s research, you must examine where he /she sourced his /her information. • If the article does not pass inspection, DO NOT use it! • Make sure that you use the correct format—a hanging indent for each new entry. • ProCon.org is a good source to use for beginning to look for ideas to research. It is not a good final source for academic research.
