(Solved): Tuesday with Morrie

Tuesdays with Morrie ENGLISH ESSAY (INTERPRETATIVE RESPONSE) INSTRUCTIONS: Write a 600-800 word thematic response to ONE of the following three topics covered in the novel Tuesdays with Morrie, by Mitch Albom. (the essay is worth 15% of course grade) Choose either: Analyse the author’s use of Irony throughout the memoir; define Irony, how it works here and what lessons the reader takes away from the experience. OR: Albom uses such literary techniques as Foreshadowing, Irony, Imagery, Dialogue, Flashback, and Metaphor throughout the novel. Discuss 2-3 of these literary devices and link to your own original theme that holds the essay together. OR: Mitch Albom, the author and narrator, learns valuable life lessons from his old professor, Morrie. Identify and link two or three of these lessons to your own, original thesis. BEFORE WRITING: * Read all three topics. * Choose one on which you will write. Come up with an ORIGINAL thesis sentence. * Plan your essay. See an Outline. Use Online Writing Centre if needed for feedback. * Assume your reader is familiar with the novel, i.e. do not simply summarize the plot. WRITING YOUR ESSAY: * Prepare a THESIS STATEMENT that allows you to explore a central idea in your topic. * Structure your essay to develop and support that thesis statement with quotes/examples. * In your essay, demonstrate a thoughtful understanding of the meaning or significance of the question you have chosen. * Support your points with specific references or quotes to the reading you have chosen. * Comment on one or more literary techniques the author uses to advance his theme(s). AFTER WRITING: * Revise your essay. * Proofread and spell-check your essay. * Do at least one revision to the essay. * Create an original title that is snappy, clever and reflects your thesis. Be accurate first.
